A Dream in Search of its Ego
Could all phenomena simply be the universe trying to understand itself?
Hey, thanks for visiting my Substack. After years of procrastination, it's finally time to put my long-held ideas to paper. The name of my Substack comes from the concept of the “Boltzmann brain.” To put it simply, this idea suggests that, given enough time, a brain could spontaneously form from random fluctuations in the universe. Some even wilder hypotheses propose that our entire observable universe might just be the dream of such a Boltzmann brain.
For many years, this concept, together with various other wild ideas and contemplations on the meaning of life, has led me to the question: Could all phenomena simply be the universe trying to understand itself?
Some of you might see parallels between this question and philosophies such as open individualism, metaphysical solipsism, and panpsychism. You might also be reminded of Andy Weir’s short story "The Egg," or even Julian Jaynes' fringe hypothesis about the bicameral mind. This brings me to what this Substack is about.
In this Substack, I'll delve into parallels I’ve observed and find intriguing. From the more prosaic, like the similarities between crypto meme coin sniping and pre-seed venture capital investing, to the esoteric, like the parallels between the process of black hole formation and humanity’s race towards the technological singularity, I’ll explore various topics that spark my curiosity.
Given my interests, many topics will likely revolve around technology, science, wine, and finance. I hope to share the sense of wonder I often encounter in the most random subjects. Subscribe and join me in exploring these ideas where we help the universe find its own ego in this (maybe) dreaming void.
